You can always manage Diabetes by proper diet and nutrition. Food supplements also help slow down some of the side effects of high blood sugar.

Diabetes today is mostly caused by a lifestyle that has less exercise and too much sugar. Diabetes can be easily avoided by just doing simple exercises each day like jogging and avoiding sugars. If you already have diabetes, exercise is still the best way to manage it. Food supplements like Charantia and Chromium also helps.

the standard for diabetes is Metformin but i also try to use alternative medicine in controlling diabetes. Alpha Lipoic Acid and Charantia seems to work well too against diabetes.

Diabetes may finally have a cure through extensive stem cell research. But for now, diabetes can only be managed by drugs or food supplements that controls blood sugar. I take Alpha Lipoic acid and Chromium because they are helpful in regulating blood sugar.

I feel that type 2 is very much manageable and in fact, can be eradicated and cured. It takes discipline though as one has to change through diet and exercise, you are correct. There are several books and clinics now that are shifting towards this notion - and getting away from the idea of popping pills, etc. Admittedly, I have not been very good with this. I started off on fire and focused, but have laxed heavily since. It is a character flaw of mine and probably the reason why I have been given this disease - to learn to focus and take responsibility. What supplements, specifically, does your dad take and does he find effective? This is great information to share with others.
