Ancient Greek Wisdom

I can come up with no better title for this page at this time.

Currently, I am re-reading the book “Reality” by Dr. Peter Kingsley. In it there is a discussion about what reality is according to the ancient Greeks, Parmenides and Empedokles. I highly recommend reading the book but in order to help make sense of things discussed in the book, I am going to gloss the terminology (in ancient Greek) used in the book to kind of consolidate the key concepts. I will do this as we come across them in the text.

thumos – the energy of life itself, it senses and feels, is the energy of emotion [p.27]

incubation

kouros – “young man” or “boy”; but also associated not with physical age but with a particular stature, usually used to denote an initiate into a new social/spiritual order [p.32]

iatromantis – “healer-prophet”; an ancient tradition in western culture of powerful healers and prophets who draw their power from the divine realm, commonly referred to as a shaman [p.33]
